Australian Skilled Migration refers to those who migrate to Australia through the Expression of Interest system (EOI) with the suitable vocational skills in the skilled occupational list accepted in Australia. This is based on the demand of the corresponding skilled workers in the shortage industries in Australia. Skilled migration was set up to attract technical professionals who are in short supply in Australia to work and settle here. It’s mainly aimed at technical professionals under the age of 45 who have relatively high English proficiency and professional skills recognized by Australian authorities. The skilled migration planning level for the fiscal year 2021-2022 is up to 28,900.
Australian Skilled Migration has undergone numerous changes. As of July 2021, skilled migration is divided into:
• Skilled Independent Visa (189)
• Skilled Nominated Visa (190)
• Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (489/491)
• Nominated by an Australian State or Territory Government/sponsored by an eligible relative and Skilled Regional (Permanent) visa (887/191)
In addition to Skilled Independent Visa (189), for different occupations and Australian states/territories have varied nomination policies.
